Physician Part Time

IEC offers employment to those physicians who wish to only work a few shifts a month. It is IEC’s request that part time employees work no less than 48 hours a month, and larger hourly contracts can be created as well. Most part time physicians are employed as an Independent Contractor and require a W9.

Scribes

IEC utilizes scribes in our busier ED’s at IU Health Arnett and IU Health White Memorial. Scribes increase patients per hour in the ED by .5-.7 patients. They work in parallel with the physician, obtaining history, physical exams, and medical decision making all before leaving the patient's room.

Culture

IEC's culture has a residency vibe in which physicians develop social relationships with each other and get to know each other well. This helps develop trust amongst coworkers and feel safe signing patients out, as well as taking sign outs. It also helps physician families meet others in the area and develop a support system.

Litigation

IEC takes malpractice education very seriously and only hires the most qualified physicians. Quarterly malpractice education is mandatory, and physicians receive frequent communication on updates in malpractice. IEC’s culture is to leave shift on time and sign out patients to the oncoming physician, and because IEC physicians are top notch, you can feel confident doing so.

Scheduling

Physician scheduling is no small task, but IEC has developed strong methods in creating the best schedule for all physicians. Scheduling is done through ShiftAdmin and allows physicians to request time off and specific shifts off. The software uses an algorithm to create a schedule based off your requests, ensuring optimal time off between nights and days. All physicians work half day shifts and half night shifts.

APP Benefits

IEC understands the value that an Advanced Practice Provider brings to our busy Emergency Department. APP’s are utilized at the IU Health Arnett Emergency Department only and are carefully supervised by our experienced team of Emergency Medicine physicians. While PAs and NPs are strong clinicians on their own, IEC believes in a true collaborative approach when caring for patients. Because of this, most patients are also seen by a physician in collaboration with the APP. This allows for the highest possible care to be given to the patient as well as for a strong working relationship between APPs and physicians. Additionally, APPs can get more experience with higher acuity patients with the direct supervision of a physician.

Annually, APP profitability is reviewed as well as department statistics and feedback. Based on these metrics, APPs are eligible for an hourly rate increase which is given in lieu of a bonus.

Scribes

IEC pioneered the use of scribes in the Greater Lafayette area and surrounding communities. Because of this and the success with the use of scribes, IEC has since developed their own scribe company. Scribes are staffed at our busier locations, IU Health Arnett and IU Health White Memorial.

To keep up with our volumes, we utilize EMR and scribe staff to improve provider efficiency. Today emergency department physicians are struggling to keep pace with a growing patient population. By utilizing scribes, physicians can spend more time talking with patients and less time dictating and documenting their work. The scribes are undergraduate students who work side by side with our providers as they examine the patients, review lab results, and determine a treatment plan. Our scribe program along with the outstanding physician leadership at IEC allows us to provide the highest level of patient care quality and improves patient through-put in the emergency department.
